Waiting

The deadline for dietetic internship (DI) applications has come and gone, and now its time to wait until I either 1) hear from Illinois State or Benedictine University for an interview for the DI program, and/or 2) wait until April 1st to see what I will be doing with the next 1 and a half to 2 years. On April 1st the computer is going to tell me one of three things:

1) Match: Illinois State
2) Match: Benedictine
3) No Match

I am looking forward to talking to the Dietetic Internship Directors and telling them more about myself and my desire to return to school and get my career started.  I am very much looking forward to learning a lot too, especially while at the internship rotations. I wish I had more time to look over the most recent Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics articles and review my stack of undergrad textbooks so I can be even more prepared.  I even paid to join a review site provided by The Academy.  I am happy where I am at right now, though.  I feel that I will have a better time studying when there is a more solidified goal in mind.

For now, work is going alright. I am starting to get that ancy feeling again and I am always looking for another opportunity to get more involved. Last week, I asked if I could help design the new digital menu boards that should be in soon. I was so excited about it, that I stayed up late that night, and made a demo.  Unfortunately, all was lost when Adam punched a few keys on my computer a couple days later, and the memory had to be wiped out in the process of recovery.  Now this just means I have to start from a blank slate.  Not the worst, but definitely not the best situation!  I will take this as a learning point for the future... back up any files I see as important so they do not disappear forever.

My job in the cafe comes with some really nice perks, and I am thankful for the experiences I have had so far.  It is easy to build relationships with the personal trainers and I enjoy learning about new areas of fitness and nutrition.  For instance, one of the personal trainers introduced me to Cross Fit Endurance which I do once a week at 5am with a group of mostly middle-aged women who are able to lift more and do more than I can!  Its the strength part of my training regimen for the Madison-Chicago 200 Mile 'Ragnar' Relay coming up in July.

Ever since I graduated, I have never stopped my job search. Almost every day, I look for postings in food and nutrition and I apply quite often.  I will admit, it is hard to commit to changing to another job even if I am not completely comfortable with my current work situation.  My work schedule has changed around so much since I started that I am looking for some consistency, but it almost seems counterproductive to start somewhere new at this point.

Other than that, I have officially joined LinkedIn.  I am interested to see what this means for future jobs.

Completely unrelated, I am so distracted right now because SNL is finally funny this week.  Its time to relax and enjoy the show, and Charlie Day's debut.   I am not a fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but he is doing a good job so far!  Until next time.
